The spindles in this circuit are powered from a power source, and they do not have to have any external wiring, including the cable between the transmitter and the receiver. This is why high speed, high resolution video is delivered by a super high speed spindle on mobile phones. High resolution video is also useful for a spintronic device that has very low power requirements and would be perfect for use in indoor and outdoor locations.
However, the low rate of consumption caused by the microprocessor’s main function is not much of a benefit for microprocessor based devices. Even if the device consumes a maximum of 0.5 watt of power per megabyte of data, on a typical mobile phone, there are around 300 megabytes of data that can be downloaded per week or month. That means that the device generates around 0.0003 watt per megabyte, which means you could consume up to 0.00015 watt by plugging the microprocessor into the power supply, or it could be a constant watt. Thus, the benefit is negligible.
So, we see that, even though it has a simple circuit, it’s not good at delivering power to a microprocessor, but to some other device, such as display. While the cost of making low power microprocessors has come down significantly, they are still expensive, and even if there was a device that used microprocessors, that device might not benefit from the benefit of a low rate of consumption. The device will most likely require additional components, which can mean expensive extra wiring, plus more expensive power supplies.
The problem, of course, with these devices, is that most of them are still very expensive, even at the low price point. The problem with the current development cycle on low-cost computer and game hardware is that so far, these devices have not turned out to be useful to the consumer. This is partly due to the fact that this current iteration of low-cost processor technology has only been around for a few years. Even if this technology was a significant leap forward, it would be difficult to use this type of transistorized design in actual consumer systems, as you may notice, they aren’t that much better than the design that had come before, and have similar characteristics.
