August 31,2018 - 9:50 AM - Hurricane Dorian (HYS) moved northeast at 16 mph on Wednesday night and was expected to hit the United States on Thursday before making its slow way north over the Gulf of Mexico. Dorian strengthened to a Category 4 storm on Wednesday night and was on track to increase to a hurricane in the coming hours. Dorian is forecast to make landfall during weekend on the East Coast. August 30,2018 - 2:00 PM - Hurricane Dorian (HYS) was named on Tuesday afternoon and moved northeast at 20 mph while slowly drifting southeast over the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) indicated that this is the worst-case scenario for Dorian based on a track that overlaps with a forecast track of Hurricane Irma. If Dorian were to impact the United States as a category 4 storm then the potential number of fatalities attributed to the storm could eclipse the death toll due to Hurricane Irma. Dorian was expected to slam into the U.S. coast in the coming hours. In the coming days Dorian is forecast to take on a new phase of its activity, while forecasters continue to monitor its progress. At time of this writing Hurricane Dorian forecast winds are near 25 mph, gusts to more than 40 mph, and the weather in the Gulf of Mexico is a potential hurricane zone. In addition to the potential number of deaths attributed to Dorian, the damage from the storm is causing millions of dollars in damage across the U.S. and could have major implications for the cost of Hurricane Irma. -/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/…

August 30,2018 - 4:30 PM - Hurricane Dorian (HYS) has grown to a Category 3 storm with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (80 km/h), Tropical storm force winds, and storm surge of 8 to 12 feet (2 to 4 meters). This means it is likely to produce a tropical storm or hurricane-force wind alert and be labeled a “major hurricane” when it starts making landfall. Dorian is forecast to be moving northeast at 9 mph (16 km/h) as it becomes closer to the Gulf Islands this evening. The storm is forecast to increase in size through Thursday. When Dorian arrives, its maximum sustained winds and potentially extreme rain and thunderstorms are likely to be a major concern. Hurricane Dorian is forecast to become a major hurricane in the coming hours. The tropical storm formation is likely on this west-northwest axis, and Dorian may reach the northern Gulf of Mexico sometime in early the coming week. The weather in the Gulf of Mexico has a potential for developing at times along Dorian’s track. This will provide an ideal stage for hurricanes to form as these are shallow, nearshore, and usually relatively low in the atmosphere. Dorian is well located on the Gulf of Mexico, on the southwestern edges of Hurricane Dominica, and just behind the Bahamas Islands. Hurricane Dorian is anticipated to make landfall Friday night or early Saturday morning in the Greater Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico Region of Florida. The storm’s center is expected to track northeastward in the coming hours. This creates an area of growing concern for Hurricane Irma, as it tracks back toward Florida in the coming days, potentially creating potentially life threatening storm surge. Hurricane Dorian is an intense tropical cyclone with sustained winds of up to 60 mph (100 km/h) in its Atlantic basin, and tropical storm force winds are possible near the storm center. A tropical storm warning has been issued for the central US and Gulf Coast from the vicinity of the center late this evening. -/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/…
