And now that people are putting this album out and being respectful, and understanding of each other's art in their own way, it's getting a little bit more disrespectful of us to throw it up onto the internet and post pictures of it where someone can look at it and think 'Oh, I hope I see her before I get off work and see what I've had to say.'

In a Tumblr post on Friday (that we’ve reproduced below), Eilish explained how she feels about the cover, and the way that it was posted on site. “ I don’t even consider this cover ‘tribute.’ The cover was posted publicly and I am completely okay with that for the reason that it was actually taken in my hometown. I wasn’t happy with the cover, and decided to go to Tumblr and post a copy of the cover to show my disgust. This is notTribute. To call it a cover is to trivialize this piece of music. To call the act of posting this tribute ‘tribute’ to me is to trivialize the act of me putting out music I love at this moment which, honestly, I really do not particularly appreciate. Here we have a woman who put her work out just like anyone else. And now that people are putting this album out and being respectful, and understanding of each other’s art in their own way, it’s getting a little bit more disrespectful of us to throw it up onto the internet and post pictures of it where someone can look at it and think ‘Oh, I hope I see her before I get off work and see what I’ve had to say.’” While she was in agreement with Nylon Germany for not taking her original ideas away, she felt that the album’s second track “Carry On Wayward Son,” written by R. Kelly, could really get to her.

“This song is so good…I just think that if they took the original lyrics and did a cover version that would have so much more power to it.” “ I know that the album, in general, isn’t going to be my favorite, but I’m really pleased with this one. The cover has made me feel a little less guilty for what I really do care about when I listen to this music because of that. If an artist wanted to put me on this disc or a cover version of it and call it all tribute, then…who am I to get upset that? I’ve just put out music I love and that I’m really in love with. We’ve discussed that a lot, as it pertains to things like ‘Take Me Home,’ and now we’re in the very same position. I can understand why they would think that way, but I just wanted to say that what I’ve put out is my music and I put it out every time; it’s the easiest way I know how to put it out.” “I’ve got another song called ‘Stray Cat’ I was really happy with which is the title of a song I wrote last year at a time when my whole band was feeling really down. I was still doing my thing as a singer- songwriter, and then I wrote it and the song was really heavy on the ballads but light on anything, and I thought it was really heavy. When I actually listened back to it, I noticed when I was listening back to it that I was very pleased with it, but it wasn’t my favorite song of the year, so they thought that I should have done more ballads or something similar. That’s something that I’m always glad for artists to do, because I’ve done quite a bit of ballads. I think I could definitely teach them what to avoid, but they never listen. Well, if they ever really listen to my own stuff; if they really listen to my own ballads then of course they would agree with me.”
